Wood Products
The furniture featured on our website is made from solid planks of rosewood. Rosewood was chosen for its density, durability, deep grain, and rich hue. Each item is handmade from solid, kiln-dried timber. Woodcrafters are bench trained to use old-world techniques when creating each unique piece. They incorporate wood dowels, wooden drawer stops, forged iron hardware, and tongue and groove joinery. Our furniture is solidly built from the inside and throughout (just try lifting one of our pieces!)
Individual items will vary slightly in overall grain, texture, tone, and size. These slight variations are characteristics found in handmade products and enhance the visual beauty of each piece. Exact finish matching cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of the wood and its hand-applied lacquer finish. Knots, slight cracks, and all other imperfections are valued for their enhancing visual qualities and are not considered flaws.
Wood Product Care
Simply dust regularly with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. We do not recommend wood oil treatments, Pledge, or other polishes with strong chemical compounds. Never use a damp cloth and keep moisture away from your furniture as any water-to-wood contact may leave permanent watermark damage. If spills occur, blot area immediately, do not rub. We recommend the use of coasters, placemats or other furniture protectors. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, water, and extreme heat for extended periods of time. These elements can damage this or any furniture product.
Iron Products
Our iron products are made by skilled blacksmiths in the old-world tradition. It should be noted that standard steel has no resistant qualities in and of itself. While we strive to maintain consistency in our finishes, items may contain slight variations due to the hand rubbed finish. The only protection against oxidation is primer and paint products. Steel will rust outdoors if great care is not taken. This may require the use of a polyacrylic or polyurethane sealant at frequent intervals depending on conditions at your location (i.e., proximity to sprinklers, landscape, fog, rain, and exposure to salty air along the coast). Poly sealant products are available at paint or home improvement stores. Over time and with regular use, these products will help to build a weather protective barrier. Please note that Cokas-Diko does not guarantee the finish on any of its forged, wrought, or cast iron products.
Leather Products
Cokas-Diko leather products are made from top-grain, aniline-dyed hides. Top-grain leather is the most durable part of the hide and it is enhanced by the aniline-dye process. This process, which insures that the leather is colored all the way through, produces a finish that is transparent and shows the markings of the leather. Because each hide is unique, all leather will vary in shading and “perfect” matching is unlikely when purchasing is done at different times. Natural body oils will stain leather slightly, but these stains will blend with the oils of the leather and give each piece a desired patina. Avoid any cleaning product that may change the pH balance of your leather, as it may cause premature cracking or discoloring. Keep leather a safe distance from floor or wall heaters, as they may dry out leather. Remove dust with a soft, clean cloth and clean regularly with a vacuum cleaner. While our leather products are the best quality available, they are not warranted against fading, dye lot variances, scotch guarding, wear, or any damages resulting from any cleaning process, substance, or procedure used.
Fabric Care Recommendations
Fabric Cleaning
It is our recommendation that all fabrics be professionally cleaned. To prevent overall soil, we recommend frequent vacuuming to prevent dust and grime.
Cleaning Code "S"
Clean this fabric with pure solvents. Petroleum distillated-based products, Energine, Carbona, Renuzit, or similar products may be used in a well ventilated room. CAUTION: Use of water-based or detergent-based solvent cleaners may cause excessive shrinking. Water stains can become permanent and unable to be removed with solvent cleaning agents. (Avoid products containing Carbon Tetrachloride as it is highly toxic.)
Cleaning Code "W"
Clean this fabric with the foam only of a water-based cleaning agent to remove overall soil. Many household cleaning solvents are harmful to the color and life of a fabric.
Cleaning Code "S/W"
Clean this fabric with the foam only of a water-based cleaning agent or with a pure solvent in a well ventilated room (petroleum distillated-base products).
Rug Care Recommendations
Natural Fiber Cleaning
Blot any pure liquid spill as quickly as possible with a white towel, never rub! If spot has dried, lightly brush any excess debris away before wetting. Dab the rest of the spot away with a clear water and mild detergent, 1 part Ivory Liquid to 3 parts water, solution. (Soda water in place of tap water can be helpful.) When spot is gone, rinse away detergent solution with a clean towel dampened with clear water. After rinse, blot with white towel to make rug as dry as possible. Allow rug to dry flat with dry towel underneath.
Wool Cleaning
Vacuum often to remove abrasive dirt particles. Use dry extraction method of carpet cleaning or test other carpet cleaning solutions to determine color fastness. (Folex and other mild type cleaners work well.) Professional Rug Cleaning is always recommended. DO NOT Dry Clean!.
